Sharing our baby news!

One part of finding out I'm pregnant is the super fun part about telling people! I looove that part and secretly get sad when it's over.

Telling Daddy!

I took a test earlier than I knew I should that had a reeeeally faint line but looked mostly negative (but again, it was really early.) I didn't trust it, but even then didn't tell anyone "just in case". (I typically tell my sister everything.) Waiting another week to retest was brutal, but when I was now a day late, I had a gut feeling. I took another test on July 1st and when it was positive, I figured it'd be fun (but difficult) to wait and tell Tom on his birthday two days later. I almost slipped up several times....while sitting at the computer and just almost blurted out, "can you BELIEVE we're having another baby?!" but thankfully I only slipped in my head.

I didn't have any grand ideas to tell him, but figured I'd make it a part of his birthday present somehow. One of my best friends Amanda (I had to tell SOMEONE) helped me think the entire process through and suggested I put it on the bottom of his last present. So that I did. My heart was racing as he opened his new work shirts...

(I yet again had the due date wrong (did the same thing with Conrad) so we're actually due March 8th, not the 11th. Or the 7th. Ha.)

Telling John and Trisha!

Next up was John and Trisha! We regularly meet up for walks so decided (as we were walking to the park a week later to meet them) that we'd put the test in the back of our stroller and ask Trisha to grab something from the back of it where she'd see the test.

It didn't go exactly according to plan, but still worked out. It was actually quite hilarious. We figured she'd stay over on the concrete with Tenley in the stoller (like she normally does), but this time - of all times - she decides to wheel the stroller over the wood chips to come over by the swings. We weren't expecting this but had no time to come up with a plan B. Tom was nervous as heck and not talking (notice how he doesn't say a single word to help me out). Our plan was to pretend to be videotaping the kids swinging (b/c why not?) and then for me to act like my phone was dying and ask Trisha to grab Tom's phone for me instead. Well as it turned out, she was standing exactly two feet from both me AND Tom now at this point and since I can't think when I'm nervous, I just stuck with the original plan and still asked her to go get the phone even though Tom was just as close as she was basically. Ohhh this makes me giggle just reliving it.

She doesn't particularly want to go get the phone and even says "I have 70% on my phone" but graciously does it anyway. She later tells us how odd she thought it was that Tom wasn't going to get his own phone. Dying. It was a complicated but hilarious way to tell them the big baby news! And who doesn't absolutely LOVE a reason to video tape Trisha being surprised?! She has the best reactions and doesn't hold anything back. Love it so much.

We were able to tell Mimi and Papa the following weekend and then my entire family the weekend after that! So fun to be able to tell people face to face when possible.

Praising God for the joy this sweet baby has already brought us in so many ways already!

Visiting Grandpa & Grandma and Mimi & Papa!

We were so excited to head back to Council Bluffs for another long weekend like we did July 2013. We were going to go over the 4th of July, but then Conrad got sick with Hand, Foot, and Mouth so we decided to stay home with our sick, feverish babe. Mimi and Papa had several fun things planned including a trip to the zoo and a princess tea at the Omaha Children's Museum, and we were super excited to share our baby news with them in person!!
----------------------
We knew it'd be hard to not spill the beans immediately about our baby news so we had flowers delivered the very next morning with a note "from" baby (same thing we did with my family when we were expecting Gwendolyn!)
They were quite surprised and excited!
We spent the majority of our time enjoying Mimi and Papa's fabulous deck and outdoor living room. So relaxing!
Gwendolyn helping Mimi water flowers...
Watching movies!
Our annual trip to the Omaha Zoo!
This was summer 2013:
Other fun pics from the zoo...
"Do not feed the hedgehogs."

So we fed the hedgehogs. Oops.
It was one hot day at the fair!
Next adventure....Princess Tea with Mimi at the Omaha Children's Museum!
Papa bought her a new princess dress and she wanted to wear her "glass slippers."

They served dinner (Jimmy Johns) and offered tea and cupcakes. So cute!
They allowed the little ones to have full access to the museum. Her eyes lit up when she discovered the infant hospital with babies and incubators and diapers galore!
Banking with Mimi...
And then there was this adorable little people kitchen filled with everything miniature including a loft that served as a baby nursery. She could have played in there for.ever! What a fun children's museum!
Celebrating daddy's birthday!
This was before Conrad was walking so he spent a lot of time pushing around his push toy on the deck. Great last minute decision to bring that along.
Conrad wasn't so sure about the slip and slide, but Gwendolyn loved it.
He's such a wee little human. Cracks me up.
Gwendolyn: "Come on, buddy. I'll help you get closer to the water."
Conrad: "Nooo get me away from this!"
Papa demonstrates how it's done.
Conrad...still not interested.

The very next weekend we headed to Charles City for a family meeting. We were able to hit up the Floyd County Fair while there, which is always a fun and entertaining time!

I didn't have any grand ideas about how to tell Becca and my parent's so that evening, as Becca was already preparing all of us bowls of fruit crisp and ice cream, I asked her to get me a glass of milk. I had tucked the positive test in the cupboard knowing she'd more than likely grab one of those colored cups for me. Sure enough, she did (although her first though was "why in the world does MOM have a pregnancy test in HERE?!)  and she walked back into the living room with a huge smile on her face and told mom and dad that they needed to come in the kitchen and help her.
Thanks for getting me my glass of milk everybody!
Grandma and her kiddos.

These before and after pics are KILLING me lately!

July 2013 vs July 2014
And they're off!
Until they ran into the bush...
Hangin' on the deck.
Fishing time with grandpa...
She caught her first fish!
Snack break, of course.

I love a good fair!
We met cousin Kristen and the girls there.
You should have SEEN the giant smile on her face the entire time this ride lasted. They were spinning so fast and having so much fun. I can't believe none of them got sick.
Truck drivers!

Best part of the fair....we got in free to the Demo Derby so Gwendolyn got to experience her first one! I can't explain in, but I love watching demolition derby's.

She sat there watching everything! We didn't stay super long, but it was long enough to make my DAY.

We love seeing Mimi and Papa and Grandma and Grandpa!
